Hey guys, this is Nic. Wow, where to start…well, I started my application period a week ago Friday. Most applicants end their application period after three days, however I got a little surprise, as mine was extended an entire week. I was invited to go on a 4-day vacation with the boys, up to Panama City Beach, for MTV Spring Break 2008.
The trip was awesome…we left Monday morning (first thing), with a 6 hour drive ahead of us. All in all, the drive wasn’t bad. I caught up on about an worth of sleep (after not being able to sleep the night before….looong story there). Aside from Zac & Jonathan, I was the only “Orlando representative (unofficially).” 3 of the
After unloading the Xterra, we got right to business…hit the beach looking for the night’s events. We hit a club called Sharky’s and were greeted by a ticket-tent selling tickets for events taking place throughout the week. After shelling out $25 a piece (x6 people)…we checked out the beach to see who/what was going on. From there, we went back to the hotel, got ready for the event going on that night...then went back to the bar.
Arriving at the bar, we found the place was dead…that the entire event for the evening was cancelled 3 weeks earlier. We stuck around for about 30 minutes, then hit Sharky’s again (where we bought the tickets) and tried to square things up with the ticket person. The whole thing was a nightmare…not only was that event cancelled, but at least 3 of the 4 events were cancelled….the 4th we didn’t even ask about. The next day, we tried getting money back, which never happened….but in the end, we came to a half-resolution & hit the beach.
That day, there was free beer & all you can eat pizza (from 12-5) The beer was watered down (not a huge deal for me…not a huge drinker, let alone beer fan here)…but the pizza, the pizza was hard to come by. With thousands of people, they understandably couldn’t keep enough on hand to feed everyone. On average, it was a 2 hour wait for the pizza, only to be gone within 10 minutes….if you didn’t get it in that time frame, wait another 2 hours. After wandering around the beach & the bar, I gave up on the whole pizza idea, and went inside a restaurant to order (which was decent). We went from there back to the hotel (some of us much more drunk than others).
The car ride back to the hotel was slightly irritating, but got blown out or proportion. Any time you have people drink, things are said in certain ways that piss people off. I blew off the whole car ride as no big deal. Some of the days blurred together, but I think from there, we lounged around the hotel….everyone had to do chats (which cut into a small part of the day…no biggie). I got to hot-tub it up with Joe & Tim…and got to know them a little better. Wednesday, we hit the beach (the actual beach, not the beach front bars), saw a lot of hot guys (and girls). I walked around with Jonathan while the other guys interviewed all the beach-goers.
We were at the beach for a good 2 hours, but called it an early day (again for chats). Back at the hotel, I hit the hot tub again, did my chat, then got ready to head out, and a local gay club. The club was so-so…little slow, but that was expected. There was one cute guys there…named Casey. I talked with him for a bit, trying to convince him to go out with us to our next destination….but no such luck. We went from the bar to beach, then immediately back to the hotel (we couldn’t figure out what to do that night).
Again, back at the hotel…we all got slap-happy and a little mischievous. The guys thought it would be cool to raid the maid’s closet (as I filmed), take all the towels, and randomly place them in front of people’s doors…..yeah, little dumb, but still fun. After a bit, I got tired and stayed in our room while a few others (to remain nameless) took it to the next level, and decided to prank one specific “jock” room. I’m still fuzzy on the details as to what happened, but was woken up at 2am by the jocks, from downstairs, banging on our door. After opening the door, having one drunk, pissed off guy yell at me, (with 4 of his friends standing at the door) and then categorically denying that I knew anything about anything, I crashed/went to sleep.
The next day, we got all packed up and hit the road back to Orlando. This was a loooong drive back. Nothing bad happened (though, Jonathan & Chris had a little fun at my expense)….it was just a long trip. We made it back here around 5:30, unloaded, and jump right back into chats. Now mind you, this whole trip…I’m still an applicant….but right before Zac got out of his, Jonathan casually says; “oh, by the way…..congrats.” Congrats…congrats for what?....welcome to CBL! Wow, a great way to end an amazing trip. I was happy to say the least.
Fast forward just a little, the next day, Rich (OLS/Mama) took me out to dinner…or rather, picked up dinner (which was so cool of him). I then had my first official chat in which all of YOU welcomed me. Again, I need to thank all of you…I’m glad you guys made me feel so welcome. After chat, I went out with Rich to 2 bars, came home…and passed the freak out.
Things brings us to today (Saturday)…today I was a lazy ass. I went out to lunch with Joe (Tampa Joe), he was kind enough to treat me, came back here, lounged around the house, then started my second official & final chat (before heading back to Michigan to prepare for the move). Tomorrow (Sunday), I head back to Michigan at 8am…finish my few weeks there, and drive back down to FL. I’ll miss you guys for those few weeks, but I’ll buzz in and out of chat, when I have a chance. Again, I want to thank you guys…and the entire CBL gang, for making me feel welcome. This will certainly be an interesting chapter in my life.
